Interview with YOTMY 2019 AP Champion

Huang He Nan won the Asia Premier of YOT Malaysia 2019 last weekend on 7th April, displaying a wide range of emotions upon his victory.

Today, we interview him to find out more.

Can you introduce yourself?
Huang He Nan from Guangdong, Huizhou
I study in Guangzhou, am at currently in my Year 2 of college.

When did you start playing? What was your first deck?
I have been playing for eight years. I started by playing HERO Beat.

Why did you choose Trickstar for YOT Asia Premier?
I chose Trickstar because I played Sky Striker at the YOT Main Event on Day 1 and obtained very poor results. Returning to the hotel that night I decided to change my deck, and ended up with Trickstar. It was used by my friend (Ah Ming) during a previous tournament (Duel City Xiamen), which he won first place in.

What is your most memorable duel/game?
4th round, when I face off against former YOTSG2017 Champion Lai Cheuk Shing,
I lost the first game, but managed to recover and win the second and third game.
During the 7th round, I played against a local player who piloted Salamangreat. Similarly, I won the second and third game to win the match.
At the third game, he finally destroyed his faced-up Imperial Order, by using Salamangreat  Foxy, and then activated Twin Twisters to target two of my set cards.
I chained my set Super Polymerization to fuse his Knightmare Phoenix and Gazelle for Violet Chimera, which won me that game. It was a very satisfying comeback.
And of course, the most unforgettable moment was when I won the championship for Asia Premier.

Favourite card in the deck?
Trickstar Light Stage. Because it is the card I least want to see playing against, and the one I always want to draw when playing the deck. It is a really strong card.

You were very emotional after you won. Can you explain to our viewers why?
After the moment I won last round, I burst into tears and cheered enthusiastically. I told myself “I made it! I made it!”
I have been playing for about two years after I returned to the OCG, and have never made any achievements thus far. Hence I wanted to make a name for myself. Thankfully, the deck responded to my wishes.

For your victory, who would you like to thank?
I would like to thank many people. To the LongDao card shop owner, XiangJie for supporting me and even lending me money to support my trip to Malaysia. Since I started college in Guangzhou, he has always gone above and beyond to help me, being more of a friend than a brother.
Secondly, I would like to thank Xibin from , for being willing to provide me with a job opportunity at the shop. Because of that, I could save enough to travel to Malaysia.
Many thanks to store manager Ah Ming for providing me with the deck skeleton for my deck.

All in all, I would like to express my gratitude to everyone from Méng Zhī Xīng Chén.

HERO Beat.

我第一天的YOTMY 2019 Main Event选择了闪刀姬,打得特别差劲;

第四轮对阵YOT冠军品味哥(Lai Cheuk Shing),在先输一局的情况下赢下了第二局和第三局;

感谢萌之星辰卡店的店长细斌愿意给我提供在卡店打工的岗位,让我有了充足的经费前往马来西亚;
感谢龙道游戏王卡店的代理店长阿明提供的构筑,这套卡组真的很强;
感谢在我前往马来西亚前一天将超融合和融合怪兽们借给我的阿巽;
总之龙之星辰卡店的各位都非常感谢;
感谢同行的好朋友金爷、肥羊、路人、吉格斯,最后颁奖时你们的欢呼让我感到很满足;
感谢广东工业大学游戏王交流群的朋友龙哥、旺财、黑岩、阿泉、银魂、主席、强爷、巨神兵、桐乃、校服,跟你们做校友很开心;
感谢TW战队的各位,法皇、枫叶、绪、猫粮、龙教授、馆长、茉莉、寒风、阿盖、铁耙、小熊等人一直以来的支持,在TW战队真的学到了很多;
感谢发条交流群的嗳惠崇莱丶LZM、阿姨、折言)、神童、梦寒、嘲讽、黑洞、菜电、辉斩等玩家;

A lengthy interview which, hopefully, managed to illustrate the emotions behind a player’s journey to victory. From the game we know and love, comes joy, fun, banter, tears and cheers.

Congratulations once more, He Nan!
